Do you ever feel like you have too many things to do and not enough time? Since coming to college I have begun to perfect all the thing I use to keep up with my ever growing to-do list. Here are some tips:
1. Go to bed earlier, wake up earlier
It is always better for you to make sure you get 7-8 hours of sleep otherwise you won’t be productive. If you have difficulty falling asleep early, try melatonin! It will help you change your sleep cycle. (You can order it from amazon or just pick it up at your local grocery store) Also, try to go to bed and wake up at about the same time, it help with your body’s natural cycle and you will feel better rested.
2. Start each day off right
After getting a good nights rest, it is important to get up and eat breakfast. I’m terrible at this one, but stocking up on granola bars or making hard boiled eggs for the week make an easy grab and go breakfast. Also, make your bed! It will make you not crawl back into bed after getting up and your room will seem more put together and clean when you get home.
3. Exercise every day
Even if it is only 10 minutes a day. Getting yourself moving helps your brain function better. I highly recommend getting an subscription to an online workout program. Two of my favorites are Barre3 and System of Strength. They both have super quick 10 minute workouts you can do as a break from work. They also have longer workouts that are good to do when you have the time!
4. Keep your energy throughout the day
Keep healthy snacks such as apples, other berries, crackers, or granola bars with you for if you get hungry between meals. Snacking is better for your metabolism and your overall body function. Also, making sure you drink enough water is key to keeping your energy up and adding lemon or other berries can make drinking water a bit easier.
5. Buy a planner and actually use it
I know we have all let our planners fall to the wayside, but using it for more than just school work and meetings can make you keep up with it! I recommend even putting your plans with friends or date nights in there! And plan out time for completing your to do lists as well. I highly recommend an hourly planner that has space for everyday. Mine is from Target! But you can also find similar ones from Day Designer or any other office supply stores.
6. Sticky Notes are your best friend
Use them around your house for reminders, stick them on your laptop with a to-do list, use them for your grocery list, literally anything and everything!!
7. Use your Sundays to plan out the week and set the tone for it
Start every week out strong. Put all of the items you need to get done each day either in your planner or on a to do list and set time limits on when these items need to get done.
8. Complete quick tasks first
Sometimes just getting started on your to-do list is the hardest. Getting a few simple tasks done first can get the ball rolling and help you accomplish all your tasks in a timely manner.
9. Learn how to say no
Sometimes you can’t do everything. Knowing how much free time you have makes you able to know whether or not you are able to commit to things. Don’t over schedule yourself!
10. Find your own routine and stick to it
None of these tips will work if you do not work them into your everyday life and make these things habits. They say it takes 21 days to build a habit, so figure out what works best for you and make it a habit after 3 weeks!
